Lessons Through The Ages

Image
I turned twenty on May 31 and my life so far has been a journey through which I have learnt a lot through the years. In a nutshell here is what I have learnt through my teen years. 13: I learnt to follow my dreams and not to put myself in a box and not to even have a box in the first place. Everyone is talented one way or another and life is too short to be doing something that you don’t like. 14: I learnt to be realistic. I learnt to make plans that I would actually follow through. This was in the beginning stages of my learning because even now I am still learning about planning. 15: I learnt to be more accepting. I accepted my insecurities and struggles. I accepted the changes that came with life. 16: I learnt to be more open. Open to opportunities. Open to people. Open to trying out something and not caring whether or not I failed.    17: I learnt a lot. This was my final year of high school and I read a lot of book and wrote a lot and I am ...

One of the biggest regrets that I have from my teenage years is the fact that I allowed myself to be what people want me to be.  I deeply regret that what  was  more important  for me  was people lo ving me rather than me loving myself . I focus ed on what people said about me and in return I suffered the most.  Once, in 2013, I had a sudden interest in photography.  So, during the holidays, I think it was April, I decided to be take pi ctures of myself or just objects. I took the photos  daily and upload ed them  to my Facebook.  The pictures that I took were very decent and I honestly didn’t have a problem with them . They weren’t that bad and they are not one of my best works but they  were  worth sharing. When   school resumed, I remember this guy walking towards me while I was seated with my friends and he was screaming at the top of his lungs, “You bored me so much this ho liday.  Every time. Every single...

I ALMOST GOT CONNED

Image
The reason why many people  get  conned  is  because of being naïve  and not being experts at being able to decode the lie from what they see or hear .  This, therefore, is used against them and they end up losing their money, their property and even their minds . So here are just a few ways that I almost got duped  and I hope you will get to see how you can prevent from happening to you . Fake online jobs. With the internet, comes a lot  of opportunities. Also, with the  internet  comes with its disadvantages.  At such times when youth unemployment is high and so is the spread of fake news, it doesn’t come as a shock with the amount of fake online jobs that exist.  I almost fell victim once and this is how it went.  I was job searching when I came across a n ad from a telecommunication agency  that was seeking marketers with basic high school education. I made a  call to the number itself. The other person at th...

Things I ate as a child

Image
A look into what consisted of my diet between ages 0-4 Pumpkins were my nightmare. I hated them.   Most of the hatred came about not from them being the staple food of my babyhood but the way I was spoon-fed.   A huge pile of it would be squeezed into my mouth and then I’d be forced to chew it down quickly. It was always kept in a blue container which was full to the brim and it took me like fifty spoonfuls to finish eating everything. By the time I was done eating, I was sweating and my fear of that blue dish had grown more. Soil. I ate a lot of humus and mostly was because of the smell it produced whenever it rained. Also during the time my friends and I would make cake from mud. Hair. I was a biter and sometimes I bit off a bit of people’s head so that I could know what was inside their heads. Chewed food. This is probably the grossest one on the list (trust me). There was this feeding style where when the food was hot the person doing the feeding had t...

the magazine i once made😂

Image
Back in 2009, I was very ambitious and decided to start a magazine which is the only magazine that I have ever had. I was in  primary school  and I was not even part of the journalism club. The idea came about when I got a  spiral  notebook. The ones that roll over when you flip the page. In the notebook, I added pictures  that I cut out of newspapers and magazines and just wrote  little caption s  underneath  them . I  tried to make it sound like I am an experienced  journalist  who has been in the game for a long time . There was even a page  where  I drew models and my own celebrities caught in public. There was this celebrity that I made up and I  called her   Az  and she had been caught on camera somewhat bargaining the price of onions.  For the record, I didn’t know whether or not she was bargaining or just ask the price but I just decided to paint a different picture just like what some journalis...

I Look Like Her Ex

This is a continuation of a story that I posted yesterday. Read PART ONE  first… And so we headed down the veranda, turn left, through the door, walked straight, turn right and then left and up the stairs. By the time I was upstairs, I was out of breath.  The angry staring lady bumped into a lady who had worn a dark suit and cat-eye framed glasses. ANGRY STARING LADY: Sorry. Mrs. Maina. Mrs. Maina just stared at her angrily. Like the two had beef before. She looked at the broken heel and a wicked smile. MRS. MAINA:  the next time you don’t watch where you are going it will be your face that I break. (ANGRY STARING LADY scoffs) Do not give me attitude because I am going to--- Angry staring lady didn’t let her finish before she raised her hand quickly and answered a call that she was receiving while walking away. This caused Mrs. Maina to be angered. MRS. MAINA: I hope the call that you are getting is that your husband is leaving you for another woman. She ...

Being the smallest of the class

Image
SIX YEARS AGO... I was small. Like tiny. My fist would comfortably fit in a  cup. I  think I was at 5 feet and weighing around 50kg and overall I resembled a gas cylinder.  There was even a time I almost got caught by a teacher checking my marks while I  was  hiding in the cupboard.  My school uniform did not even fit me. I had this huge sweater , a huge shirt  and huge trousers which I would substitute with a pair of shorts depending on my mood.  On windy days, my uniform would be blown revealing my tiny frame. There was even a teacher who came up to me and asked me if the clothes I was wearing were even mine. If you are asking yourself why I could not just buy fitting clothes the answer is because those were the pieces that I inherited from my brother who had been in the same school some years before. Just to be clear, I was just averagely small. Most of my friends were tall and because of that it made them feel like they were more mature and th...
