Fans of an Impossible Life

Image
Title:  Fans of an Impossible Life Author:  Kate  Scelsa Genre:  YA, Teen fiction Publisher :   Harper Collins Year of publish:  2015   MY REVIEW: I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn’t a typical book because it had three point of view of each of the main characters. Each point of view had its own uniqueness because of how their views were told in different tenses. The book explores issues like  sexuality, depression, drug abuse and more without sugar coating. It also has a lot of quotes that I have loved. Rating: 3.5/5

I ALMOST GOT CONNED

Image
The reason why many people  get  conned  is  because of being naïve  and not being experts at being able to decode the lie from what they see or hear .  This, therefore, is used against them and they end up losing their money, their property and even their minds . So here are just a few ways that I almost got duped  and I hope you will get to see how you can prevent from happening to you . Fake online jobs. With the internet, comes a lot  of opportunities. Also, with the  internet  comes with its disadvantages.  At such times when youth unemployment is high and so is the spread of fake news, it doesn’t come as a shock with the amount of fake online jobs that exist.  I almost fell victim once and this is how it went.  I was job searching when I came across a n ad from a telecommunication agency  that was seeking marketers with basic high school education. I made a  call to the number itself. The other person at the other end was hospitable and that didn’t make me suspect anything. Then

Childhood Myths

Image
A list of myths that I was told as a child and somehow I believed them…   Santa Claus . Honestly, I have never believed that he has even existed in the first place. First, I live in Africa where it only snows on mountain tops and Santa only visits places where it snows. Second,  I never got gift wrapped presents during Christmas. Clothes were the only gifts I got because in an African household they are. Wearing red during the rain. This has been the myth that I believed the most. Basically, if you wore red anywhere that meant you were more susceptible to getting struck by lightning. I don’t know what the myth was trying to prevent but it stopped me from wearing in my favorite color for the longest time possible. Cat in the dark. This is one of the scariest myths that I have ever heard.  The myth goes like this: if you travel to Mombasa and you are still in the outdoors at 3am, some genie will appear and turn you into a cat. Another cat myth. This came about from my mother

Things I ate as a child

A look into what consisted of my diet between ages 0-4 Pumpkins were my nightmare. I hated them.   Most of the hatred came about not from them being the staple food of my babyhood but the way I was spoon-fed.   A huge pile of it would be squeezed into my mouth and then I’d be forced to chew it down quickly. It was always kept in a blue container which was full to the brim and it took me like fifty spoonfuls to finish eating everything. By the time I was done eating, I was sweating and my fear of that blue dish had grown more. Soil. I ate a lot of humus and mostly was because of the smell it produced whenever it rained. Also during the time my friends and I would make cake from mud. Hair. I was a biter and sometimes I bit off a bit of people’s head so that I could know what was inside their heads. Chewed food. This is probably the grossest one on the list (trust me). There was this feeding style where when the food was hot the person doing the feeding had to put the
