I turned twenty on May 31 and my life so far has been a journey through which I have learnt a lot through the years. In a nutshell here is what I have learnt through my teen years. 13: I learnt to follow my dreams and not to put myself in a box and not to even have a box in the first place. Everyone is talented one way or another and life is too short to be doing something that you don’t like. 14: I learnt to be realistic. I learnt to make plans that I would actually follow through. This was in the beginning stages of my learning because even now I am still learning about planning. 15: I learnt to be more accepting. I accepted my insecurities and struggles. I accepted the changes that came with life. 16: I learnt to be more open. Open to opportunities. Open to people. Now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute (or more). Just sit right there and I’ll tell you how I peaked at thirteen and the burnt out afterwards. You are just about to read what I currently consider as the peak of my life so far. This was the time I felt like the universe was working to my favor and I was getting the attention and recognition that I deserved.   One of the biggest regrets that I have from my teenage years is the fact that I allowed myself to be what people want me to be.  I deeply regret that what  was  more important  for me  was people lo ving me rather than me loving myself . I focus ed on what people said about me and in return I suffered the most.  Once, in 2013, I had a sudden interest in photography.  So, during the holidays, I think it was April, I decided to be take pi ctures of myself or just objects. Last week, as I prepared for the world to end, I decided that it would be a great idea if I watched a lot of shows before I exit earth. Sadly, the world didn’t end (duh!) and  also  I  only watched three shows which from the title I think you expected more. Handmaid’s Tale Season 1 – Hulu First of all, this show won big on the Emmy’s and congratulations to everyone involved. Second, this was my second time watching the show because at first I had not paid attention to it that much. Something that I regretted doing. Anyway, this is a good show. Heck one of the best shows of the year (after  This Is Us   and  Big Little Lies ) I had started the book but didn’t finish it because of my phone problems.  If you have time please watch this show . Just when I thought that she was one of the good ones that  is  when the drama began. This is a story on one of the many househelps that have been  employed and stayed  in my house.  And when I say ‘in my house’ I am referring to my parent’s house because this is Africa and parents own everything you have. It wasn’t a typical book because it had three point of view of each of the main characters. Each point of view had its own uniqueness because of how their views were told in different tenses. The book explores issues like  sexuality, depression, drug abuse and more without sugar coating. It also has a lot of quotes that I have loved. Rating: 3.5/5

A list of myths that I was told as a child and somehow I believed them…   Santa Claus . Honestly, I have never believed that he has even existed in the first place. First, I live in Africa where it only snows on mountain tops and Santa only visits places where it snows. Second,  I never got gift wrapped presents during Christmas. Clothes were the only gifts I got because in an African household they are. Wearing red during the rain. This has been the myth that I believed the most. A look into what consisted of my diet between ages 0-4 Pumpkins were my nightmare. I hated them.   Most of the hatred came about not from them being the staple food of my babyhood but the way I was spoon-fed.   A huge pile of it would be squeezed into my mouth and then I’d be forced to chew it down quickly. It was always kept in a blue container which was full to the brim and it took me like fifty spoonfuls to finish eating everything.
