Fans of an Impossible Life

Image
Title:  Fans of an Impossible Life Author:  Kate  Scelsa Genre:  YA, Teen fiction Publisher :   Harper Collins Year of publish:  2015   MY REVIEW: I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn’t a typical book because it had three point of view of each of the main characters. Each point of view had its own uniqueness because of how their views were told in different tenses. The book explores issues like  sexuality, depression, drug abuse and more without sugar coating. It also has a lot of quotes that I have loved. Rating: 3.5/5

I ALMOST GOT CONNED

Image
The reason why many people  get  conned  is  because of being naïve  and not being experts at being able to decode the lie from what they see or hear .  This, therefore, is used against them and they end up losing their money, their property and even their minds . So here are just a few ways that I almost got duped  and I hope you will get to see how you can prevent from happening to you . Fake online jobs. With the internet, comes a lot  of opportunities. Also, with the  internet  comes with its disadvantages.  At such times when youth unemployment is high and so is the spread of fake news, it doesn’t come as a shock with the amount of fake online jobs that exist.  I almost fell victim once and this is how it went.  I was job searching when I came across a n ad from a telecommunication agency  that was seeking marketers with basic high school education. I made a  call to the number itself. The other person at th...

Childhood Myths

Image
A list of myths that I was told as a child and somehow I believed them…   Santa Claus . Honestly, I have never believed that he has even existed in the first place. First, I live in Africa where it only snows on mountain tops and Santa only visits places where it snows. Second,  I never got gift wrapped presents during Christmas. Clothes were the only gifts I got because in an African household they are. Wearing red during the rain. This has been the myth that I believed the most. Basically, if you wore red anywhere that meant you were more susceptible to getting struck by lightning. I don’t know what the myth was trying to prevent but it stopped me from wearing in my favorite color for the longest time possible. Cat in the dark. This is one of the scariest myths that I have ever heard.  The myth goes like this: if you travel to Mombasa and you are still in the outdoors at 3am, some genie will appear and turn you into a cat. Another cat myth. This came about ...

Things I ate as a child

Image
A look into what consisted of my diet between ages 0-4 Pumpkins were my nightmare. I hated them.   Most of the hatred came about not from them being the staple food of my babyhood but the way I was spoon-fed.   A huge pile of it would be squeezed into my mouth and then I’d be forced to chew it down quickly. It was always kept in a blue container which was full to the brim and it took me like fifty spoonfuls to finish eating everything. By the time I was done eating, I was sweating and my fear of that blue dish had grown more. Soil. I ate a lot of humus and mostly was because of the smell it produced whenever it rained. Also during the time my friends and I would make cake from mud. Hair. I was a biter and sometimes I bit off a bit of people’s head so that I could know what was inside their heads. Chewed food. This is probably the grossest one on the list (trust me). There was this feeding style where when the food was hot the person doing the feeding had t...

wearing dresses and embarrassing myself

Growing up my parents used to take me and my siblings out for a fun day. This happened almost every weekend especially after we had gone to church.  A lot of happy memories of my childhood were made here. As time went by, the sort of traditions slowly died and the outings reduced to almost twice or thrice a year. Today, I will tell you on what used to happen on such occasions. A typical day began with me being the first one to bathe because the order of showering always started from the youngest and ended with my father being the last one. This was an unspoken rule in our house. Being the first person to be clean, I would always have ample time to waste. Most of which was spent playing with my next door neighbors. By the time we were leaving the house, I was already dirty. I would have dust covering me from head to toe. This, in turn, always made my mum furious. She would later on place me in the kitchen sink and rewash me again. This time she would use cold water. That was not t...

Vote Wisely

DEAR KENYANS… Let us be mindful and be peaceful as we go into elections. Remember one thing: WE ARE ALL ONE . We are living in a country that is growing rapidly demographically and economically. A country that has produced wonderful people who have gone ahead to make the world a better. A country that has housed people of all walks of life and from all corners of the world. A country that is full of people with dreams and ambitions. A country that has claimed its place of possessing beauty. Let us now tarnish what we have worked so hard just because of delusions fueled by hate. It is during this time that we come together regardless of who we are voting for or where we come from and promote peace. We should not spread hate in the name of being patriotic. Love will never camouflage itself with hate. Let us practice peace with sincerity. The only way we will build the country is if we focus more on our similarities. The fact is that we are all the same similar since ...

the magazine i once made😂

Image
Back in 2009, I was very ambitious and decided to start a magazine which is the only magazine that I have ever had. I was in  primary school  and I was not even part of the journalism club. The idea came about when I got a  spiral  notebook. The ones that roll over when you flip the page. In the notebook, I added pictures  that I cut out of newspapers and magazines and just wrote  little caption s  underneath  them . I  tried to make it sound like I am an experienced  journalist  who has been in the game for a long time . There was even a page  where  I drew models and my own celebrities caught in public. There was this celebrity that I made up and I  called her   Az  and she had been caught on camera somewhat bargaining the price of onions.  For the record, I didn’t know whether or not she was bargaining or just ask the price but I just decided to paint a different picture just like what some journalis...

I look up to nights like these where we speaks from our hearts  from expectations in our unfavorable future to our nightmares of our pasts. Nights like these when everything is still and our thoughts are screaming out loud  and emotion pour out. Nights like these we discover new things about each other and how we promise to love one another and more bonds are created in our heartfelt conversations

I Look Like Her Ex

This is a continuation of a story that I posted yesterday. Read PART ONE  first… And so we headed down the veranda, turn left, through the door, walked straight, turn right and then left and up the stairs. By the time I was upstairs, I was out of breath.  The angry staring lady bumped into a lady who had worn a dark suit and cat-eye framed glasses. ANGRY STARING LADY: Sorry. Mrs. Maina. Mrs. Maina just stared at her angrily. Like the two had beef before. She looked at the broken heel and a wicked smile. MRS. MAINA:  the next time you don’t watch where you are going it will be your face that I break. (ANGRY STARING LADY scoffs) Do not give me attitude because I am going to--- Angry staring lady didn’t let her finish before she raised her hand quickly and answered a call that she was receiving while walking away. This caused Mrs. Maina to be angered. MRS. MAINA: I hope the call that you are getting is that your husband is leaving you for another woman. She ...
